Protect from insurance fraud and road rage with our new SEAT front and rear dashboard camera.
What is a SEAT Approved Dashcam?
A SEAT approved dashcam discreetly record high-quality video and audio files. Positioned in the front windscreen it records everything that it sees. Dashcam popularity has exploded recently, fast making it a vital piece of technology. For instance, five years ago dashcams were used by only 1% of all drivers. In 2017 that increased to 15% and an estimated 30% plan to buy one soon.
How does it work?
All SEAT approved Dashcams records what the lens is pointed at and stores the files to a removable memory card. As a result, files are easier to review later with the memory card able to store around 3 hours of footage. The files are stored in the memory card and once it is full the camera overwrites the oldest file first. This means it can keep the most recent footage without filling storage. When the vehicle is running, all SEAT approved dashcams are powered by a permanent connection to the vehicles 12v supply. When there is no 12v supply, the battery back up takes over so there is no draw on the vehicle when it is switched off.
How do I view the footage?
Depending on what SEAT approved dashcam you go for depends on how you can view the footage. There are normally three ways to view the footage. Connect the SEAT approved dashcam to a computer using the supplied cable. Removing the memory card from the SEAT approved dashcams and plug it into a computer with a memory card reader. Download the free NextBase CamViewer app from Google Play or the App Store for smartphones and tablets.
Aren’t they illegal?
No, not when the SEAT approved dashcam is mounted where it is not in the driver’s line of sight and is not used to intrude on someone’s privacy. SEAT approved dashcam footage is often used by Police and insurance companies in the course of an investigation.
Why do I need a rear camera?
Due to the unpredictable nature of incidents when on the road, the rear-facing camera module provides additional insight. All information in the event of an accident is invaluable and the more you can provide the more you can help the authorities.
What benefits do I get?
- Insurance Purposes
A SEAT approved dashcam is your independent witness to prove you are not at fault. For instance, this could mean the difference between keeping your no-claims bonus or paying excesses and higher premiums. A number of motoring groups have research indicating reduced insurance premiums for dashcam owners. However, this does depend on the policy of the insurance provider
- Road Safety
Research shows that fitting a SEAT approved dashcam can make people more conscientious drivers. This reduces the chance of being involved in an accident at all. Also, if you advertise that the car is equipped with video recording it can deter aggressive behaviour from other drivers.
